Racism is defined as prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior (Oxford Dictionaries). Racism can be seen in many different cultures but is most prevalent in American society. Racism affects everyone, no matter skin, age, gender, or socioeconomic background. Racism is still around but has taken the form of microaggression, which is defined as a statement, action, or incident regarded as an instance of indirect, subtle, or unintentional discrimination against members of a marginalized group such as a racial or ethnic minority (Oxford Dictionaries). It’s important to understand the history and causes of racism, and how they exist today.
