In today's society being a racist is seen as immoral and unacceptable; however, that doesn't mean that there isn't any racism. Police brutality is a modern example of racism, but many claims of police brutality can’t be proved. Police brutality is often used as a term to describe instances when a police officer harms a civilian who is innocent, in most instances it is brutality against a minority. It started when slavery was still around and has continued to this day. Another instance of racism today is microaggression and is growing in popularity. It is growing in precedence today because most people who are racist are more subtle with it, or they make racist remarks unintentionally. This is a textbook example of microaggression. The reason microaggression is so popular is that it is harder to spot; therefore, it is safer as one cannot be ridiculed for something no one catches you doing. Another example of discrimination is stereotyping, which is defined as an assumed label given to someone out of pure ignorance and arrogance (Urban Dictionary). Many people of color are given stereotypes because of their race. Mexicans are assumed to have just crossed the border, African Americans are thought to be aggressive and trigger-happy, Asians are assumed to be really smart. Some people find these stereotypes funny, others find them very offensive.
